• East Kentucky Reproductive Health Project

“…women, no matter their party affiliation, are concerned about the health of their mothers, their daughters and their sisters. The health of American women, preventing unintended pregnancies, and supporting sound family planning are goals that all of us, irrespective of political persuasion, should support.” –Christie Whitman former Republican Governor of New Jersey

    What is EKRHP?

EKRHP is an effort led by young women from southeastern, Kentucky who are producing and distributing media that explores the sexual and reproductive health experiences, concerns, and needs of women in the region.  Along with video stories EKRHP will provide current information on all reproductive health options and listings of resources for our region via the web and print materials, so that women can have easier access to the complete information they need to make and carry out their own decisions about their reproductive health.

    EKRHP aims to:

    • Engage young women in producing and distributing video stories that explore the sexual and reproductive health experiences, concerns, and needs of women in Eastern Kentucky.

    • Increase open and honest dialogue about reproductive health issues among women.

    • Provide factual reproductive health information in all stages of life.

    • Empower women in their reproductive decision-making.

    • Build a network of health justice activists in Eastern Kentucky working to increase access and availability of comprehensive reproductive health care services in theregion.

    Want to Share Your Story?

Sometimes it may seem like our experiences don’t amount to much, aside from what they mean to us.  But, learning from the stories of others can be one of the most powerful tools for gaining knowledge and bringing about meaningful change in the lives of those who hear those stories.  By sharing your story surrounding the many topics within reproductive health, you can have a positive impact on the future wellbeing of others and inform the choices they make.

Share your story and become part of this important effort.  Contact EKRHP and you will be paired with a trained, female filmmaker through (AMI) the Appalachian Media Institute.  Your story will be documented in a respectful and caring manner for use by the project.  You may also choose to document your story anonymously.

Would You Like to View and Share EKRHP Media?

Bring EKRHP to your business, organization, community center, school/college, place of worship, or social group for a viewing of the collected films and a facilitated discussion on the topics those films address.  You may choose the topics that interest your group most and EKRHP will choose the films for your viewing – or view them all.  Viewings also may occur in the setting of a gathering in your home for you and a group of friends.  These viewings are completely free of charge, so please schedule today to reserve a date for your viewing.
